Places of interest
The waterfalls at Soochippara near Meppadi are really a treasure of nature, yet to be discovered. The stretches of waterfalls ranging at places from 100 to 300 feet height are a treat to the eyes. The pool below provides for water rafting, swimming, bathing, etc. The tree top huts at Soochippara give a unique view of the valleys of the Western Ghats and the glimmering shallow waters of the surrounding spring.
It is a natural fresh water lake, brimmed with evergreen mountains. The weather here is salacious; the scenic beauty, hypnotising and the nature, unspoiled. Pookot Lake tourist resort inVythiri is the most sought after tourist spot of Wayanad. There is an aquarium and a green house here. Boating facilities also are available. Spices and handicraft items are also arranged for sale Pookot. The lake has an area of 8.5ha.and the maximum water depth is 6.5mtrs.This lake is three kms. south of Vythiri.
Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary
Muthanga, which is 16 kms. east of Sulthan Bathery, is located very near to the Karnataka border. Wild forests
covering an area of 345 sq.kms. from the Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary;the biggest abode of wild animals in Malabar. Elephant, spotted deer,bison, tiger, cheetah, wild bear, etc. are found in this sanctuary. The Forest
Department has facilities for providing elephant rides to tourists here..
This location is breath-taking beauty is three kilometers from Ambalavayal which is 25 kms. from Kalpetta. The Edakkal cave in the Ambukuthy Mountain is not a cave in the real sense. It is only ‘a cleft about 96 ft. long and 22 ft. wide in the rock’. It is a fissure made by a corner of rock splitting off from the main body due to some natural causes. The depth of both the cleft and the fissure is 30 ft. What makes it a cave to the ordinary observer is the fact that in the other portion of the large cleft, an enormous rock, weighing several tons, has fallen forming a roof over a large part of it. The rock wall contains some interesting carvings, which
represent human and animal figures and objects of human use and symbols.These carvings speak of a highly civilized people of pre-historic are and inspires the archaeologists and historians to rewrite the history of Wayanad and Kerala as a whole.
Kuruva Island is situated on the tributaries of the river Kabani and is a fabulous picnic spot. Its serene silence and wide expanse of the evergreen forest leaves you astonishing. This island is isolated but
an array of uncommon species of birds, herbs and orchids are the monarchs of Kuruva Island. Just 17 km to the east of Mananthavady, Kuruva Island is a vast island of 950 acres abundantly rich with green
forest. It is very far from the turbulence of city life making it an exotic place for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature. It is closed during monsoon (June to September)
This Chain tree is located near Vythiri and is 15 kms from Kalpetta. This is a large Ficus tree bounded by a long chain.Ficus tree is the official tree of Thailand. Under natural conditions this tree will grow upto 98 feet. It
has swinging branches, silky leaves and small fruit. This small fruit is a favourite food for many birds.
There is an interesting story behind this Chain tree. It is said that one adivasi youth named Karinthandan helped or guided one British engineer to find the difficult path through the dense forest to Wayanad. But the
crooked engineer who wanted to take the full credit of this discovery killed Karinthandan. The angry soul of this adivasi started troubling travelers who used to visit Wayanad. It is said that one priest chained this
angry spirit to this tree.
Meenmutty falls is 29 kilometer far from the Wayanad Kalpetta. Meenmutty fall is a 300 metre high fall and is three-tiered.Meenmutty fall, the biggest and magnificent falls in Wayanad is situated at two kilometer hike through the forest from the Ooty road.
Tholpetty Wild Life Sanctuary
This is another popular wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad. You can find here
spotted deer, elephants, bison, leopards…etc., Or the greatest hunter of them all Tiger, the big cat. Jeep safari is allowed inside & a big hit with tourists. Distance from Kalpetta62 Kms. (27 kms. from Kuruwa Dweep)

Chembra Peak is 2,100 meters above sea level & the tallest point inWayanad. Scaling this peak & back is an exhilarating 5 – 6 hours trek
from the base. At 1,500 meters from the base, there is crystal clear lake
hardly touched by human hands. This peak is a trekker’s paradise & an
ideal site for camping out at night. The scenic beauty of Wayanad, that is visible from the top of Chembra peak, is really mesmerizing. Distance

Note: Sightseeing of Wayanad depends on the time and place the guest arrives and departs. Guest Coming from Bangalore and mysore will cover sightseeing of Edakkal caves, Muthenga Wild life sanctuary first where as guest coming to Calicut will cover Pookot lake and suchipara waterfalls first.
